The incumbent serves as a real-time electrical engineer for the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) power system real-time engineering function. The incumbent is responsible for conducting real-time, current-day, and next-day transmission studies for the Bulk Electric System (BES) in the Western Area Upper Missouri West (WAUW) and the legacy Western Area Upper Missouri East (WAUE) Balancing Authority Areas (BAA). The incumbent is responsible for maintaining and trouble-shooting real-time tools availability and solution quality. The incumbent represents WAPA and/or participates in regional operations group activities. Incumbent provides real-time communication with system operators and operating support personnel as well as neighboring entities. The incumbent adheres to FERC rules and regulations, NERC/WECC standards and WAPA, SPP and DOE policies, procedures, and guidelines.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
At the AD-2 level: Knowledge of general electrical engineering principles and practices, maintenance engineering for a Electric Utility or a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering.
At the AD-3 level: Experience applying electrical engineering principles and practices applicable to the planning, deployment and operations of high voltage (100kV or higher), interconnected electrical power system controls and components including transmission, power generation, communications and controls involved in the operation and protection high voltage power system.
At the AD-4 level: Applicant must have the experience listed at the AD-3 level above as well as experience with the utilization of power flow and stability software as well as real time state estimation software.

While in an on-call status, the employee is required to carry an electronic paging device and will remain within one-half hour travel time of their primary place of residence and will sustain themselves in an able- to- respond- and- perform- work condition.
