Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Chief Counsel, Office of Associate Chief Counsel, Trade and Finance located in Washington, DC.
This position starts at a salary of $72,750.00 (GS-11, Step 1) to $159,286.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $159,286 (GS-14, Step 10).
The Office of Chief Counsel is a fast-paced work environment, where attorneys work on high-profile matters and navigate very short deadlines. In this position, you will become a key member of the legal team for the Office of Chief Counsel. Qualified candidates have interest and/or experience in the core functions of this legal team with an emphasis in fiscal and appropriations law, which include:
- Advising the agency client on various financial management activities, such as the proper use and expenditure of funds, and interagency agreements;
- Providing legal opinions on fiscal law issues pertaining to funding CBP operations and review Anti-Deficiency Act investigations;
- Researching and interpret applicable laws, statutes, and regulations; draft legal opinions and analyses; and make recommendations to agency leadership; and
- Assisting agency leadership with any other matters, such as reviewing and drafting legislation affecting CBP's interests.
