The ACOS-Q position will encompass the breadth of clinical care, including inpatient consultation, outpatient clinic and management of the clinical services in addition to supervision of other licensed independent practitioner's, staff and trainees. The ACOS-Q will have oversight and responsibility over all quality improvement (QI) priorities within the organization that are targeting physicians and other clinicians. S/he will also serve as the principal liaison and champion for efforts as directed by the Medical Center Director targeting the Chief of Staff service line; this position will be a peer position with the Chief of Quality Safety and Value and work closely with that person. S/he will direct the efforts of performance improvement initiatives to optimize clinician uptake and subsequent medical staff member behavior change, with the goal of effectively and efficiently improving the quality of care delivered to Veterans.
The ACOS-Q provides services and technical counsel as necessary, promoting the development of professional staff within the service through coaching, mentoring, teaching, and encouraging self-assessment and self-improvement. S/he will also monitor and design interventions on quality indicators, as well as review metrics and events retrospectively and prospectively. The ACOS-Q participates in top level decision and policy design that impacts patient care through collaboration with Medical Center administration, service chiefs and interdepartmental supervisors. The incumbent reports to the Chief of Staff and serves as a key clinical resource for the Medical Center Director and the Chief of Staff and part of the key leadership team of the medical center
In addition to clinical duties, the JBVAMC clinical services are affiliated with the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. The faculty at JBVAMC typically have academic appointments at these institutions. The incumbent is required to be eligible for a Faculty appointment. JBVAMC is integrally involved in all teaching and research activities at these Universities. Teaching responsibilities may include resident mentorship during their inpatient rotations at the JBVAMC, outpatient clinic precepting, and other duties as assigned. Additionally, the incumbent will work closely with the Chief Residents for Quality and Safety, including them in projects and mentoring as appropriate
Work Schedule: Primarily business hours, but clinical work may require night/weekend/holiday hours as appropriate to meet patient needs
