    The Detailee will serve as a Data Scientist in the Maintaining Technology Advantage (MTA) directorate. The position of Data Scientist advises the Director, MTA and serves as the technical lead for developing an integrated analytical capability, comprising data acquisition, processing, and modeling, in support of policy assessments involving the Science and Technology (S&T) enterprise,emerging technologies and international innovation base.

    Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following:

    • Responsible for identifying and integrating innovative solutions and architectures to perform data analytics on DoD, commercial, and freely available data sets on research, innovation, academia, talent: for example, develop a predictive analytic method to identify domestic talent and institutions to attract/retain.
    • Develops and codifies methodology for data-driven analysis critical to supporting national security decision making.
    • Assists in national-level policy development and assessment to strengthen the United States and DoD research enterprise. Formulates policy options and analyzes outcomes. Engages with academia, industry, and non-profits to support assessments of impact.
    • Provides support to technical focal points for counter intelligence and S&T horizon scanning with open source information. Collaborates with stakeholders across DoD, (to include acquisition, research, development, intelligence, counterintelligence, law enforcement, security and chief information officers) industry, and academia to develop policy and processes to acquire, share, and utilize publicly available information.
