    This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS), National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), Environmental Modeling Center (EMC), Engineering & Implementation Branch with one vacancy in College Park, MD.

    Responsibilities

    As a Physical Scientist, you will perform the following duties:

    • Formulate and execute projects involving development and subsequent implementation into operations of fully coupled earth system models for global, regional, weather, and seasonal scales for atmosphere, waves, ocean circulation, sea ice, waves, land surface, aerosols, and other Earth system parameters.
    • Interpret scientific and technical research results and implement findings in order to facilitate the National Weather Service’s (NWS) mission.
    • Develop collaborative relationships with partners across the scientific community to create solutions for environmental systems that can be transitioned to operations.
    • Provide scientific direction and guidance in the multi-disciplinary fields of numerical weather prediction.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Up to 20% of domestic and foreign travel may be required.
