    These positions are located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Infrastructure Operations and Services (IO), IT Operations and Services (ITOPS). IT Specialists are responsible for the full range of duties within their assigned service and division.

    Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary, but may involve intermediate periods of walking, bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, moving (up to 50 pounds) computer components and supplies, reaching, pulling, and working at a keyboard and monitor. Subject to call back outside tour of duty.

    Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

    This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-11. At the GS-9 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-11. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds. Promotion is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.

    Major Duties:

    • Provides front line or first responder support to IT related customer service calls. Performs system maintenance duties such as upgrades, patches, backups/restores.
    • Manges the installation and integration of systems fixes, updates, and enhancements.
    • Serves as project leader or participates as team member on an ad hoc and/or standing work groups in a virtual environment accountable to the division chief.
    • Develops and manages customer service performance requirements. Develops cost estimates for new or modified systems.
    • Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains customer hardware and software. Works with customers to test applications to assure software and systems quality and functionality.
