The Associate Commissioner serves as the principal advisor to the Commissioner in the area of public information. Acts on behalf of the Commissioner to provide policy review of Bureau publications and other forms of public information, including the BLS public website, social media, and other contemporary communication tools for the dissemination of data and information.
In conjunction with the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and other Associate and Assistant Commissioners, plans and evaluates all Bureau projects and programs in terms of their ultimate publication form. Ensures the publication program is a balanced representation of the Bureau reaching the spectrum of users who require information developed by the Bureau.
The incumbent provides policy direction for the scheduling, review, editing, and publication of all analytical work produced by Bureau program offices to ensure that the economic and statistical content are of the highest quality and conform to Bureau and Departmental policies. Plans and directs all work related to the publication of the Bureau’s periodicals, bulletins, reports, and other published materials.
The Associate Commissioner serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Monthly Labor Review, a leading professional journal in the field of labor economics, labor statistics, industrial relations, and related topics. The Review provides public access to the research and analysis completed by the Bureau.
