    Summary

    WAPA is responsible for Federal electric power marketing and transmission activities in 15 central/western states encompassing a 1.3-million sq. mile geographic area.  The power system is comprised of over 17k miles of transmission lines and represents nearly 6% of the Nation's high voltage transmission.  Wholesale customers is over 630, including rural electric cooperatives, municipalities, public districts, investor-owned utilities, Federal/State agencies, and irrigation districts.

    Responsibilities

    This position serves as Regional Manager of the Rocky Mountain Customer Service Region, which is a key member of the Western Area Power Administration senior leadership team.  The incumbent directs organizational activities, frames strategic plans based on broad organizational assessments and evaluations of long-term organizational objectives.  He or she determines the financial and personnel resources needed to achieve mission objectives and support mission operations; identifies the need for major organizational improvements and develops the requisite plans and directs implementing actions.  The incumbent oversees and directs the internal organization, staffing, policies, and personnel authorities required to carry out the responsibilities of the organization, including the recruitment of senior managers and technical experts necessary to ensure the success of the programs.

    Leads the Region in carrying out WAPA's mission in a quality-conscious work environment that is sensitive to the needs, interests, and concerns of customers and stakeholders.  Assures that all programs, functions, and activities are accomplished in a cost-effective manner.

    Participates as a member of WAPA's senior management team in (1) developing WAPA's overall long-range direction, goals and strategies; (2) developing and leading high performing teams which assure quality, customer-focused service; (3) employing excellent business principles and safe, effective, and efficient operating practices; and (4) fostering commitment to good power system stewardship and organizational citizenship in accomplishing organizational goals.

    Initiates, plans, develops, and implements broad power resource development, transmission, distribution, and marketing policy for the Region.  In addition, assures regional participation in negotiations and other decision-making conferences concerning power resource planning, management and marketing, and assures coordination and collaboration with other Western Customer Service Regions to promote consistency of policy and application throughout WAPA.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Occasional overnight travel (1-5 nights per month) may be required to attend conferences, meeting and training.
