Supervisory Controls:
Reports to the Chief of Staff
Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties :Clinical responsibilities include examinations, diagnosis, treatment, and therapeutic-ability, effectiveness in emergencies, patient management, specialty skills consultation, and record keeping. The incumbent spends 50% of their time performing administrative responsibilities of:
a) Chair monthly Operating Room Committee
b) Participates in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance related processes
c) Develop anesthesia policies and guidelines and insure the highest standards of care are followed by anesthesia staff
d)Recommend privileges for anesthesiologists and CRNA's.
e) Recommend to administration and medical staff the type and amount of equipment that is needed for administering anesthesia and analgesia.
f) Establish a program of continuing evaluation for staff CRNAs and anesthesiologists.
g) Participating in establishing policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure adequate comprehensive services.
h) Serving as a member of the organized medical staff and helping to ensure adherence to its bylaws and rules and regulations.
i) Be able to be recalled to the hospital within 60 minutes during (Weekends, Holidays, Evenings and Nights) WHEN hours to provide necessary care for the diagnosis and treatment of emergencies that may arise.
j) Providing oversight of the SBUH anesthesiology resident rotation to assure ACGME compliance.
Teaching responsibilities; include the effectiveness in teaching, monitoring and coordination of educational activities including planning, evaluating and documenting. The incumbent spends 20% of their time performing educational responsibilities:
a) Oversee training in anesthesia procedures for medical students, anesthesiology, dental residents, respiratory therapists and paramedic students, ensuring a specific course of objectives will be set forth and agreed upon by the educational directors and the anesthesia section.
b) Quality Assurance and Research responsibilities; include the ability to identify and define significant research and development problems, to plan and execute a precise research program and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication on an annual basis.
Work Schedule: 7:30a to 4:00p; Monday through Friday (On-call when needed)
