The Diagnostic Radiologic Interventional technologist works alongside interventional radiologists and nurses. An interventional technologist assists the interventional radiologist with diagnostic and angiographic procedures, complex vascular and nonvascular interventional and therapeutic procedures. Interventional technologists are required to have a combination of technical, Radiologic and clinical skills. He or She performs many duties during an interventional procedure.

The technologist is responsible for obtaining all equipment needed for a procedure, positioning and imaging patients, resolving equipment issues, and demonstrating knowledge of human anatomy, radiation safety, interventional supplies and equipment operation. He or She operates and maintains diagnostic x-ray and ultrasound equipment in the performance of patient care. Responsible for all duties related to imaging patient care; RIS data management; general clerical; physician assistance; patient transportation and other related duties as necessary.Under Supervision of the Interventional Radiology Nurse Manager and according to established policies and procedures for various age groups of patients, assists with the performance with interventional procedures in order to assist Radiologists in the diagnosis and treatment of illness. Assists with the performance of radiographic procedures according to protocols established for various age groups of patients, at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Assists with the performance of a wide variety of technical procedures including, but not limited to, aortogram runoffs, arches, carotids, extremities, and cerebrals. These exams will require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. These exams will be in a sterile environment and the above listed will require atrial access. Assumes responsibility for designated area and/or procedures, as required. Serves as resource person, assists with work schedule, interdepartmental committees, assists with policies, protocol and QA program development, and ensures proper safety protocols are followed.The duties of the Interventional Radiologic Technologist consist of but is not limited to the following:
