The Senior Scientist serves as the principal scientific authority, technical leader, and independent researcher for High Power Electromagnetics (HPEM). The incumbent will accelerate technologies that support the emergence of Directed Energy warfighting and will guide Air Force and Defense Department research investment in Directed Energy. The Senior Scientist, as an authority in the HPEM core area technology, supports the Chief Scientist to perform technical reviews and assessment of relevant programs, to propose new study areas, and to interact with other Air Force and government agencies in matters relating to high power electromagnetics, including high power microwaves, millimeter-waves, THz radiation, plasma physics, particle beams, pulsed power, and HPEM effects for militarily relevant purposes. Formulates strategies, assesses plans, and interacts with other AF and government agencies in matters of the generation, manipulation, propagation, and effects of high power electromagnetics.
