    Summary

    The Bureau of Labor Statistics measures labor market activity, working conditions, price changes, and productivity in the U.S. economy to support public and private decision making.

    This position is with the U.S. Department of Labor/Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Office of Field Operations, Branch of Economic Analysis and Information (EA&I).

    This position is inside the bargaining unit.

    Responsibilities

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Incumbent serves as a technical consultant to user groups of Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Consultation on technical and statistical socioeconomic data is provided to senior officials in government, business, labor, academic institutions, and the general public.

    • Substantial technical expertise is required to determine appropriate data sources, define terms, explain concepts and methodologies, point out limitations in the data, and provide the proper interpretation and use of the information.

    • Reads and interprets a diverse list of publications staying abreast of emerging economic trends that may impact the Bureau's data.

    • Assists the Regional Economist in the planning and implementation of a program of economic analysis that interprets economic developments. Under the direction of the Regional Economist, prepares special analysis on major issues or problems.

    • Incumbent may assume the role of senior Bureau representative while organizing and staffing exhibits which display the Bureau’s program data at conventions, career fairs, or conferences.

    • The incumbent stays abreast of the technical requirements of the Internet, and other automated data dissemination technology.

      Duties at the GS-11 are development leading up to the full performance level of the GS-12.
