Responsible for performing radiological and environmental protection licensing reviews of the facilities possessing and using byproduct, source and/or special nuclear materials. Responsible for analysis and evaluation of radiological hazards, design specifications, and operating procedures described in license applications and existing at the application and licensee facilities for a wide variety of uses of radioligical material. Responsible for resolving technical, heath and safety, and security issues with applicants and licensees; preparing written correspondence that includes NRC materials licenses with a high degree of accuracy; and managing multiple priorities within agency established metrics.
In addition to the basic education/knowledge requirements described above, you must possess at least 1 year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level. To meet the level of experience, you will need 5+ years of post bachelor's degree experience or at least 3+ years of post master's degree experience working with radiological safety technology, including radiation physics and dosimetry, with particular emphasis on the use of ionizing radiation in medicine and industry.

The ideal candidate for this position must demonstrate in their resume:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, theory and practice of health physics or byproduct materials regulation to identify, analyze and develop conclusions regarding assessments of regulatory programs or licensee performance in implementing radiation safety programs and controls.
2. Demonstrated ability to perform evaluation and analysis of radiological health hazards.
3. Demonstrated ability to present technical information both orally and in writing.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of NRC rules and regulations related to radiation protection aspects in the licensing and inspection of byproduct, source, and special nuclear materials.
BASIC EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must possess knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices in the general field of health physics, evidenced by possession of a bachelor's degree in a natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics, including calculus or equivalent.
In addition to the basic education/knowledge requirements described above, you must possess at least 1 year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level.

For the GG-12 level, you will need 4+ years of post bachelor's degree experience or at least 2+ year of post master's degree professional experience working with radiological safety technology, including radiation physics and dosimetry, with particular emphasis on the use of ionizing radiation in medicine and industry.
For the GG-13 level, you will need 5+ years of post bachelor's degree experience or at least 3+ year of post master's degree professional experience working with radiological safety technology, including radiation physics and dosimetry, with particular emphasis on the use of ionizing radiation in medicine and industry.
