This position is located in the Assistant Administrator for Communications (AOC). The Incumbent is a direct report to the FAA Web Manager and serves as an expert Writer-Editor (Web Content) in the Web Division. The Web Division is responsible for FAA web management. Web Management provides guidance to enhance the usability of FAA's public and employee-facing web priorities (FAA.gov and My.FAA.gov) and maintain a consistent brand image across all online communications.
Is a recognized subject matter expert in a specialized area and provides leadership for highly complex and challenging activities under the minimal direction of a manager or executive. May act as a principal specialist to develop new innovative approaches, methodologies, and/or techniques or as a team leader to define and direct challenging projects/activities. Shares responsibility for the performance of programs/projects that frequently affect more one LOB/SO or the FAA as a whole.
Provides expert web content management services to agency LOB's and Staff Offices. Applies experience and expert knowledge of the organization's mission and functions, to identify and resolve challenging problems or issues. Delivers day-to-day web management maintenance and support. This includes content update requests,; content quality improvements; arranging or delivering training in web management tools and processes; usability improvements; and developing, delivering, and applying web related guidance.
Advocates for the web as a communications channel to LOB/Staff Office management. Works closely with content creators/owners to understand their office's web goals and objectives, and develops solutions to meet them. Acquires and allocates resources to accomplish activities within established schedules and budgetary requirements. Makes web improvements using strategic recommendations, applying quality standards, federal guidelines, and other best practices. Is an expert in web maintenance tools and acts as a resource for content creators. Works with senior management to identify and resolve problems.
Collaborates and engages in ongoing dialogue to stay abreast of the subject-matter that might influence policy changes, best practices, and web tool. Identifies, suggests, and makes improvements to web content operation processes. Coordinates content delivery workflow, processes and mechanisms with content creators/owners. Identifies and corrects errors, inconsistencies, and omissions in coordination with managers, operating officials, and/or content creators/owners, as appropriate. Leads other web content specialists on projects with a defined scope and objective.
Contacts are internal and external. Often represents the major subdivision and LOB/SO as a principal point of contact to provide advice and guidance on the applications of policies and procedures. Formulates and recommends to senior management positions on major projects/policies/issues. Prepares, reviews, and recommends approvals of major reports on projects, programs and other work activities for internal and external distribution. Develops briefings to convey strategic vision and/or organizational polices to internal and external audiences.
Work typically is reviewed only at completion for success in achieving planned results. Has broad discretion to ensure the alignment of organizational goals and policies and the requirements of the projects and/or other work activities. Work activities typically impact directly on the objectives of one or more organizational units, major subdivisions, and/or LOS's/SO's and often impact on the objectives of the FAA, and regularly affects internal and external customers.
