    The Incumbent serves as an IT Specialist, IT Operations and Services (ITOPS), Service Operations, Infrastructure Operations, Support Systems located at the Information Technology Center, Philadelphia, PA (PITC). Responsible for managing the PITC Local Area Network (LAN) in such a way as to ensure maximum availability of its resources for all users. The LAN acts as a gateway to all other VA computer systems, both local and remote, through a frame-relay network.

    Physical Requirements: The work requires walking, bending, stooping, and lifting of equipment. Assignments may also involve physical exertion necessary to accomplish equipment cabling and/or re-cabling, equipment relocations, and equipment inventory activities. Incumbent may be required to work long hours or irregular shifts as the workload demands.

    Major Duties:

    • Responsible for planning and coordination of the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of a variety of current systems.
    • Conducts substantial problem analyses to identify adverse trends, ineffective practices or procedures, and equipment short comings.
    • Designs group policies and access control lists to ensure compatibility with organizational standards, business rules, and needs.
    • Manages system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
    • Manages the LAN/WAN systems, designs and monitors new complex network systems, configures and installs network hardware/software, and maintains LAN operations.
