Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the positive education requirement, a qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band or GS grade level in the Federal Service i.e., EN-03 or GS-13.
Specialized experience for this position is defined as applying engineering or physical science disciplines related to the safety analysis program to provide guidance, oversight, and technical evaluation of activities related to nuclear safety, criticality safety, safety systems, packaging and transportation, and day-to-day contractor operations in nuclear and other high hazard facilities.

- Knowledge of Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) and other operational disciplines adequate to evaluate when to bring in Subject Matter Expert's, and what types of SME's to bring in to maintain operational awareness in assigned facilities.
- Knowledge of advanced theories, principles, and practices of multiple engineering fields (aerospace, chemical, civil, electrical, electronic, mechanical, and nuclear); and/or of multiple physical science disciplines, to include chemistry, materials science, and physics.
- Knowledge of facility operations and analytical techniques sufficient to recognize and evaluate institutional, programmatic, and facility operations management issues, and to present them to technical and non-technical customers and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of DOE orders to ascertain the LLNL's compliance in all areas with emphasis on areas of personnel safety, and environmental protection, as well as current knowledge of other codes, regulations, and standards, e.g., ASME, IEEE, EPA, etc., as needed to assure that operations are conducted in a manner that protects the workers, the public, and the environment while effectively utilizing available resources to accomplish the Department's missions.
- Ability to evaluate and prepare reports, including overall recommendations and to respond to incoming correspondence in concise understandable written documents or oral presentations.
- Ability to interface with NNSA and DOE entities, NNSA laboratories, and external customers and stakeholders in potentially conflicting situations and minimize impact(s) on assigned facilities, projects and programmatic objectives.

A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 1) Professional registration or licensure; 2) Written Test; 3) Specified academic course; 4) Related curriculum. A. Degree: Physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR
B.
