The incumbent's primary duties and responsibilities are to develop and provide formal and informal interpretive programs for park visitors located within the monument, as well as deliver curriculum education materials to youth in the Chicago area. All products will reflect the cultural and national significance of Pullman National Monument, along with the broader National Park Service core mission and goals. The Park Guide position is located at Pullman National Monument in Chicago, IL. Pullman National Monument is located in Chicago, the third largest metropolitan area in the United States. This new National Park Service site, established in February 2015, tells the story of 19th and 20th century labor history through the lens of the Pullman company. There is an emphasis on the impacts of 1894 Pullman Strike and the first African-American union, the Brotherhood of the Sleeping Car Porters, to America's heritage. Additionally, the park interprets the legacy of Pullman's planned residential and manufacturing complex and relevancy to urban planning today. The park is in the process of development and growing partnerships with the community and stakeholders. World class cultural, recreational, medical, and educational opportunities are available in the region. Public transportation by both bus and train is available to the park. No government housing is available, but there is a diverse range of housing opportunity available within the commuting area. Chicago Locality Pay is approved.
