    Conducts archeological fieldwork in Yellowstone National Park. Depending on the location and project, archeological resources studies may be prehistoric or historic in nature.

    TERM positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed thirteen months, with possible extensions up to a total of four years without further competition.

    • Assists with and performs archaeological surveys, archaeological monitoring, excavations, laboratory analysis, data management, and archaeological project reports for specific plans and projects.
    • Identifies, records, and evaluates cultural remains in surveys and excavations related to prehistoric and historic cultures of North America.
    • Leads crews; instructs crew members in specific tasks and job techniques; gives on-the-job training to crew members; checks on work in progress; and reports to supervisor on performance, progress, and training needs of crew members.
    • Inventories and monitors the condition of cultural resources and compliance projects in areas impacted by construction and visitor activities.
    • Uses digital cameras, GPS, and other archeological methods and tools, and documents field survey methods and results.
    • Uses GIS and other computer software in support of data collection and reporting activities.
    • Gathers data and assists in completing Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho state site forms and contributes to cultural resource survey reports relating to prehistoric and historic archeological sites.
    • Assists in the management of archeological collections according to established museum procedures.
    • Provides historical and archeological information to visitors.
    • Performs work assignments in safe, timely manner according to established standards and procedures.

    Travel Required

    25% or less - You may be expected to travel and/or camp for this position.
