This announcement is open to current, permanent employees of Maryland VA Health Care System (VAMHCS).
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Personnel/Training The position observes, evaluates and prepares reports on the performance of department personnel; develops programs to alter the behavior of employees whose work performance is below acceptable standards; plans, assigns and explains work requirements to subordinate supervisors for new or changed programs and the functions, goals, processes, skills, and needs; develops solutions to continuing problems in the quality of work and operating effectiveness and takes or recommends necessary corrective actions; resolves technical work problems not covered by precedents or established policies; hears grievances and serious employee complaints to resolve or recommend s solutions; reviews serious disciplinary cases involving Police Service employees and recommends appropriate actions to higher level management; approves, modifies or rejects career development plans, training requests, employee utilization proposals, and similar matters; and deals with union officials and others on matters involving collective bargaining members.
Physical Security As the technical expert, the position develops local policies and implements corrective procedures to alleviate identified physical security problems, taking into consideration all internal, as well as external factors when making decisions or recommendations concerning law enforcement and physical security to the VHA, VBA or NCA Facility Director. The position is the subject matter expert and responsible for the development of the physical security plans and objectives and for producing Medical Center policies which address the full scope of the facility's law enforcement and security program.
Police and Security Administration The position is the sole facility law enforcement and security subject matter expert. Interprets complex security policies and procedures and is the primary source to provide guidance to senior facility leadership, other service chiefs, program managers, VBA, and NCA leaders within the Medical Center's catchment area.
Police & Security Operations The position manages the modernization efforts and plans, the integration of new initiatives, advancements in technology, policies, etc. that are transforming the law enforcement/security program into 21st century policing model.
Equipment/Weapons/Weapons Control Manages procurement and accountability of equipment used by and assigned to police service. Responsible for the Firearms Program at the facility level, ensuring that critical elements of the program are met, i.e.; weapons training certification, inventory control of weapons and ammunition and supporting supplies.
Work Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday. However, subject to change based on needs of the service.
