    WHAT IS THE WAGE AND INVESTMENT DIVISION? The Wage & Investment Division (W&I) serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. W&I provides high-quality taxpayer assistance, and enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns and make payments.

    Responsibilities

    WHAT DOES A  SENIOR TAX  ANALYST DO? As a Senior Tax Analyst you will serve as an expert analyst with responsibility for performing significant technical, analytical, and evaluative staff work related to national level mission-oriented programs. Assignments involve exceptionally large and complex programs, systems, or issues. The work includes planning, coordinating, and conducting analytical studies, and/or projects. Programs include direct or indirect activities related to tax administration. In this position, your decisions directly influence the formulation of agency program and/or policy development. You will also provide coordination in the identification, development, and resolution of program issues that affect the operating units within the Business Division assigned.

    As a Senior Tax Analyst you will:

    -Perform assignments that are agency-wide in scope and have significant impact on issues facing the operating unit.

    -Comprehensively plan, analyze, determine cost/benefit relationship, and coordinate a variety of functions, operations, teams, or interfacing administrative systems.

    -Independently study complex problems facing operating unit functions or those of particular concern within specialized areas of the organization. This may require coordinating input from activities outside the division and identifying new methods of performing work.

    -Represent management at high-level meetings and conference calls to provide technical advice and staff assistance to headquarters executives, headquarters analysts, field managers, and employees in the assigned program area(s). Provide authoritative interpretations and guidance concerning operating policies, instructions, and other material pertaining to assigned program areas.

    -Serve as liaison with business units/operating divisions, managers, and other internal/external stakeholders on a variety of significant program, policy, and systemic issues and problems.

    -Develop, prepare and review agency directives, Internal Revenue Manual (IRM) issuances, memoranda, Service-wide policy statements, and other written guidelines and recommendations that may have agency wide impact
