EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
The incumbent will serve as a member of the Office of the Chief Information Officer, as a senior Information Technology (IT) Specialist subject matter expert responsible for coordinating IT Local Area Network (LAN) work with IT staff who perform a wide range of IT LAN management and support activities that extend and apply to the entire FEMA organization and its major components. Typical assignments include:
- Serving as subject-matter expert (SME) regarding LAN installation, management, and support of servers; user data backup and recovery; telephony services; and remote access.
- Coordinating all LAN related work and activities with other LAN staff and keep the Branch Chief informed of the status and potential issues.
- Coordinating with the Branch Chief to identify work and projects and the prioritization and timeline for completion.
- Coordinating work with the End-User Computing IT Specialist Team Leader to ensure work required by both teams are properly planned and implemented.
- Communicating with internal and external stakeholders with professionalism.
Occasional travel - Occasional non-emergency travel may be required.
