The incumbent directs, coordinates and participates in the development and review of cultural resource documentation, including the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), for a range of routine and complex park projects, including historic structures, permits and rights-of-way, interagency trail and access plans and large-scale road and paving projects to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations. Prepares and coordinates the writing of the cultural resources section of the resources management plans and specific action plans pertaining to the management and protection of cultural resources. Applies a range of knowledge and expertise of cultural significance of regional history, ethnography and designed features. Represents the park when working with others on resource stewardship issues. Develops and maintains effective working relations with tribes, other traditional associations, and related groups, agencies, and the public. Serves as park Tribal Liaison. Attends management and professional conferences and other events for the purpose of exchanging information and advancing advocacy for park stewardship. Maintains liaison with the State Historic Preservation Office and other interested parties. Conducts or coordinates the review of projects to assure protection of cultural resources and compliance with applicable federal laws such as the NHPA, Archeological Resources Protection Act, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, and National Environmental Policy Act. Ensures projects are reviewed and considered in context of historic design intent and guidance consistent with the Secretary's Standards for the National Register of Historic Places and for draft National Historic Landmark status.
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must meet the the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
To qualify for the GS-0170-11 Historian position, you must possess the following:
Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history

Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
To qualify for the GS-0190-11 Anthropologist, you must possess the following:
Degree in an appropriate field of anthropology.
-OR-
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major, or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in an appropriate field of anthropology, or related course work, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
-OR-
Experience: four years of appropriate experience in anthropology performing research, museum work, or similar professional-level work.
