Summary

Incumbent will plan and conduct multiple research studies focused on the causes, incidence and cost of accidents, disease and disabling illness. Studies are designed for the purpose of identifying, analyzing, and reporting on emerging public health issues and problems.

Responsibilities
- Develop the analytical plan incorporating appropriate statistical methods and techniques, execute the analysis of data, and interpret results.
- Ensure the statistical validity of study activities by solving problems occurring in the data collection process.
- Engage in data presentation and dissemination.
- Provide technical leadership, consultation and advice on statistical analysis and methods, and techniques of assigned studies.
- Assist senior level statisticians in completing assigned segments of survey/data systems planning activity.

Qualifications

Basic Qualification Requirements for the Statistician (Health) GS-1530-09/11:
A degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.

A combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

Minimum Qualification Requirements for the Statistician (Health):
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or at the next lowest grade level in the Federal service as defined below. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position.

GS-1530-09: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience applying standard statistical methods and techniques to analyze data

Possess a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level education leading to such a degree, or LLB, or J.D. if related
-OR-
Have a combination of graduate level education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

GS-1530-11: One year of specialized experience, at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service to include experience monitoring and analyzing data, and assisting others in reporting on emerging public health issues and problems.

Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related to the position

Have a combination of graduate level education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
