As a Computer Operator, you will perform the following duties:
- Operate a variety of computer equipment and related auxiliary and peripheral devices in a High Performance Computing Environment. Locate applications and system software malfunctions and report to systems specialists, identifying hardware malfunctions. Adjust job priorities, reassign equipment between systems, trace and reset controls for teleprocessing connections.
- Order and interpret system dumps and job output to identify the nature and source of problems, order and implement backup and recovery procedures, direct the continuation of important processing operations, and reallocate equipment configurations to work around hardware or circuit malfunctions.
- Monitor and facilitate the operation of the physical plant (i.e., infrastructure), assisting with correction of mechanical failures, maintaining the plant, and preventing the disruption of vital services.
- Comply with vendor/manufacturer preventative maintenance requirements and use system management tools to ensure proper work methods.
NOTE: The duties described are at the full performance level of the ZT-3 grade and the duties at the ZT-2 are developmental leading to such performance.
Occasional travel - Up to 5% of domestic travel may be required for this position.
