    This position is located in the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Office of Product Development (OPD), Materials Technical Support Division (MTCD) Ink Branch. Incumbent serves as a Supervisory Research Chemist responsible for leading the team who prepares complex acquisition packages along with highly technical material specifications and leads technical evaluations of major production material with an emphasis on Ink and related materials.

    As a Supervisory Research Chemist, you will:

    -Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of a team of materials program managers (CORs) and material scientists within the Ink Branch, rendering all necessary technical and administrative assistance to carry out the functions for preparing material specifications and technical evaluations of major production material acquisition.

    -Schedule work of the Division, maintaining close liaison with officials of the Office of Currency Manufacturing, representatives of Supply Chain and the Office of Acquisitions so as to be informed regarding immediate and long range requirements to printing and packaging programs impacting the materials under the position’s authority. 

    -Assist in trouble shooting problems relating to materials and systems problems arising during production.

    -Implement, conduct, and determine resource requirements and modifies or terminates projects as necessary. Develop long-term program plans and objectives in conjunction with production needs. Periodically evaluate programs to assess their effectiveness and makes revisions to meet changing needs or to improve effectiveness. 

    -Oversee the preparation of technical documents, justifications for major procurements of materials, the technical evaluation and administration of contracts. Maintain a contract work file containing copies of the contract, records of all communications with vendors, laboratory data, and certificates of conformance.

    25% or less - 1 to 5 Nights per month.
