Basic Requirements:
Microbiology Series, 0403
A. Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

A. Degree: entomology, or a related discipline of the biological or physical sciences that included at least 16 semester hours in entomology.

Additional Requirements:
Applicants must meet the basic requirements for one of the series shown above as well as the specialized experience requirements shown below to qualify for the GS-14 or GS-15 grade levels.
GS-14: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience (defined below) equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal Service.
* Planning and conducting independent research related to new biological control agents, processes and methods; and
* Developing and maintaining relationships with commodity groups or stakeholders; and
* Managing human, fiscal and physical resources to accomplish research goals; and
* Publishing independent research results related to sustainable control of crop pests, weeds, plant diseases or rural public health threats in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
GS15: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience (defined below) equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal Service.
* Leading a multidisciplinary team conducting research related to new biological control agents, processes and methods; and
* Developing and maintaining relationships with commodity groups and stakeholders; and
* Managing human, fiscal and physical resources to accomplish research goals; and
* Successfully transferring developed technologies; and
* Publishing independent research results related to sustainable control of crop pests, weeds, plant diseases or rural public health threats in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
