In this position will serve as a Materials Handler receiving, storing, and assembling for issue, storage, shipment, and distribution a wide variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment, and Commodities dispersed among the warehouse operation. Typical duties include:
- Receiving, locating, storing, issuing, and shipping supplies, materials, and equipment, routes and expedites movement of parts, supplies, and materials. Unloads and checks all inbound freight of supplies/materials and equipment, taking care to document all overages, shortages, damage, and refusing receipt of damaged goods at the dock.
- Providing customer assistance to those customers requesting materials and supplies. Customer service includes greeting personnel, issuing materials, and assisting customers with a high degree of professionalism and courtesy.
- Distributing supplies within various warehouse/storage areas to support Mount Weather customers and special projects and performs a full range of warehouse functions in a major segment of a large warehouse. Works with a high degree of independence in determining sequences of loading and unloading, developing space utilization plans, and implementing the movement of materials from dock to bin or from storage to shipping.
- Overseeing storage for specific commodities or equipment groups. Responsible for storage and space utilization for a variety of commodities, equipment, and material in accordance with Agency Regulations.
- Ensuring safe receipt, storage, and movement of hazardous and toxic materials and substances in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements. Receives formal and on-the-job training to oversee hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.
All MWEOC staff have emergency assignments and are considered deployed in place. Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
All MWEOC employees are: (1) required to use a government-issued electronic device (to include cellular phones); (2) subject to recall during emergency situations; and (3) required to perform work in locations both above and below ground.
EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
Occasional travel - This position may require minimal non-emergency travel up to 5%.
