As a Fish Biologist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
As the Assistant Project Leader (APL) at a National Fish Hatchery (NFH) your duties may include:
Responsibility for the day to day operations of a small Hatchery while reporting to a higher level Manager/Project Leader.
Providing oversight and assistance with the operations of a hatchery that encompasses full management authority for fish culture/study, public outreach, personnel, purchasing, and administration functions.
Performing a wide variety of activities associated with hatchery operations, coordination, and management functions, in addition to conducting various special projects and scientific studies, on and off station, to enhance production and operations.
Coordinating fish production activities with personnel from other Federal, State, Tribal, and civic entities and agencies, such as release and transport of adult and juvenile fish and eggs.
Promotion Potential: This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed represent the full performance level of GS-GS-12. At lower grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-GS-12.
