    EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

    In this position, you will develop and implement plans designed to enhance relationships with FEMA stakeholders with the objective of providing professional support towards the successful accomplishment of External Affairs goals and objectives.

    Typical assignments include:

    • Supporting the IGA Branch Chief and National Tribal Affairs Advisor in maintaining relationships and engagement efforts with tribes, tribal leaders, tribal associations and other stakeholders/officials.
    • Supporting and assisting in the preparation and appearances of Senior Agency officials at conferences, workshops and meetings of constituency groups, professional organizations and external audiences, including national and regional tribal conferences and meetings.
    • Representing the IGA Branch and Tribal Affairs Team before tribes and tribal officials at meetings, conferences, consultations and other engagements in order to explain FEMA programs, policies and initiatives and collect input from tribes germane to the issues being discussed.
    • Supporting and assisting programs on activities associated with the effective interface of FEMA with tribal officials, governmental officials, constituency groups and stakeholder organizations to ensure customers are fully knowledgeable of FEMA programs, key processes and procedures, and initiatives, especially those related to federally recognized tribes.
    • Advising and coordinating the appropriate response by senior FEMA officials on various issues expressed by intergovernmental external audiences pertaining to FEMA's policies, programs, initiatives or authorities. Ensures that correspondence/responses are consistent with FEMA policies and position on difficult or complex matters.

    Promotion Potential: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.
