    The position will support the Federal Government's response efforts to COVID-19

    The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Information & Technology, Office of Information Security (OIS), Information Security Policy and Strategy, Security System Support Department.

    You will serve as an Information Assurance/Cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert and report to the Supervisory IT Program Manager and System Security Support Director, Office of Information Security.

    This is a temporary appointment not to exceed 1 year. This appointment may be extended up to a maximum of 1 additional year (24 months of total service).

    Major Duties:

    • Designs and applies principles and theories of the common enterprise architecture approach to include purpose (duty to protect), mission need (risk assessment), and controls (design controls to protect) throughout the planning, programming, budgeting, and execution (PPBE) cycle.
    • Defines, plans, and applies architectural elements in the analysis, planning, design, implementation, documentation, assessment, and management of the enterprise security architecture that is aligned with IT strategy and agency mission, goals, structure, and processes.
    • Coordinates penetration testing or other 'red team' activities that might occur at/or traverse the system's infrastructure as part of conducting Security Control Assessments (SCA).
    • Uses knowledge about current threats to identify flaws and weaknesses in the composition of system designs and defenses for the mission and mission critical data.
    • Provides security and technical recommendations for Risk Assessments and Vulnerability Assessments conducted on networks, systems, and devices.
    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 08:00 am -4:30pm

    Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some work may require walking and standing in conjunction with travel and to attendance in meetings and conferences away from the work site. Some employees may carry light items, such as papers, books, or small parts, or drive a motor vehicle. The work does not require any special physical effort.
