Summary

This position is located in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Associate Chief Financial Officer for Shared Services (OCFO-SS), Pegasys Financial Services (PFS), Financial Information & Operations Division (FIOD), in Kansas City, MO.

The employee serves as an Accounting Technician and is responsible for the monitoring, maintenance, and reconciliation of accounts and ledgers.

Responsibilities
- Performs case-by-case reviewing, researching, auditing, analyzing, reconciling and fact-finding by using technical accounting files, spreadsheets and automated systems.
- Identifies and resolves problems and deviations.
- Plans and performs a broad range of accounting support work assignments.
- Determines the reasons for the rejection and takes corrective action or refers problem to the accountant and/or supervisor.
- Analyzes, prepares, processes, verifies and maintains a wide variety of documents, forms, reports and other needed data related to various accounting support functions.
- Reviews transactions rejected by various automated systems, including system generated entries.
- Processes various accounting related transactions and performs related research in applicable automated systems using different and varied technical processes.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:

GS-08: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience includes: creating and reviewing accounting and financial data for accuracy and completeness; researching, analyzing and applying standard procedures; recognizing inaccurate accounting data; working independently and determining the types and sources of information needed to complete technical support assignments; presenting and reporting financial data and issues to management. NOTE: This experience must be demonstrated on your resume/supporting documents.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Applications will be evaluated in accordance with Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Delegated Examining Procedures and USDA policy using category rating. Applicants who meet basic minimum qualifications will be placed in one of two or three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified. Within these categories, applicants eligible for veteran's preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans. Category placement will be determined based on applicants' quality of experience and the extent they possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) or competencies:
