    EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

    In this position, you will serve as the principal health and medical expert to FEMA related to policy, planning, operational and programmatic issues. Typical assignments include:

    • Serving as one of the CBRN Science Advisors, representing the FEMA CBRN Office as a subject matter expert on topics relating to the Hazmat and Public Health & Medical lifelines. Serving as an interface with the medical community and the intelligence community to build a network of partners to advance FEMA's response posture to current threats.

    • Supporting the development of legislation and policy that best serve the needs of the Agency. Applying scientific analysis, public health, and medical expertise to develop national and deliberate planning, providing programmatic direction and guidance, and outreach and communications support for FEMA.

    • Planning, and communicating with the Interagency, specifically to include US Agency for International Development (USAID)/Bureau for Humanitarian Affairs (BHA) and the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG).

    • Supporting FEMA Operations, to include participation in classified activations to apply public health and medical expertise to support FEMA's preparatory consequence management decisions. Participating in National Response Coordination Center activations to support national-level decision making.
    • Supporting US&R activations as needed for operational medical direction, integrated planning, emergency medical treatment of system personnel, victims, and providing health and strategic medical input into FEMA's future planning products.
