    Summary

    The Ultrasonographer independently performs technical work in the Ultrasound section of the Imaging Service. The Technician also manages specialized scanning equipment and the network Picture, Archive, Communication system (PACS) as part of the diagnosis and treatment plan for patients.

    Responsibilities

    Diagnostic Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques for medical purpose. The practitioner must be competent in the production, use, recognition, and analysis of ultrasound images and patterns used for patient diagnosis and treatment. The Sonographer is regarded as the expert source of all ultrasound imaging, and the interpreting Radiologist relies heavily on the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the Sonographer in providing a final interpretation.

    • Serves as an expert and provides consultative assistance to Radiologists.
    • The Technician maintains schedule records.
    • Perform Ultrasound exam for maximum diagnostic information.
    • The Technician will evaluate and prioritize patients in order of urgency.
    • Interprets ultrasound requests.
    • Ability to communicate with staff and Radiologists as well as nurses on the patient floor and the healthcare provider.
    • Monitors Ultrasound equipment and notify engineer regarding repairs.
    • Assists Radiologist with biopsies performed in Ultrasound.
    • Plan work assignments.
    • Plan work assignments.
    • The Sonographer correlates the scheduling of patients' exams with the reception staff as well as with the nurses on the patient floor (this pertains to in-patients).
    • Prioritizes the emergent exams and work into the daily schedule.
    • The Technician (Sonographer) plans and carries out exam(s) necessary to complete the work assignment.
    • The Ultrasound Sonographer must have the ability to communicate ideas and facts clearly.
    Work Schedule: Monday & Wednesday 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. (Variable shift)
