The Emergency Communications Division leads the Nation's operable and interoperable public safety and national security and emergency preparedness communications efforts. Through training, technical assistance, coordination, tools, and guidance, the division supports safer, better-prepared communities nationwide by helping federal, state, local, tribal, territorial and industry partners develop emergency communications capabilities. The division also ensures communities have access to priority telecommunications and restoration services to communicate under all circumstances. In this position, you will be responsible for supporting states/territories with maintaining a Communications Unit (COMU) program and disaster response required by FEMA's Communications Emergency Support Function. Typical work assignments include:
- Serve as the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command Structure (ICS) Communications Unit's subject matter expert to support interoperability for all public safety communications technologies.
- Provide technical assistance in the emergency communications eco-system (Land Mobile Radio (LMR), wireless broadband, 9-1-1/Next Generation 0-1-1, alert and warning systems. social media).
- Assist public safety with Communications Unit planning for National Special Security Events (NSSE) and Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) events.
- Serve as a qualified, certified Communications Unit Leader (COML) instructor to public safety stakeholders and responders on advanced communications and related information technology subjects related to public safety.
- Represent CISA with internal and external stakeholders within a geographic sector in support of CISA objectives and goals to promote communications operability and interoperability
- Participate as an SME in national working groups involved in specifying the future of public safety communications.
