As a Fish Biologist (Vessel Coordinator), you will perform the following duties:
- Oversee and monitor new, ongoing, and proposed SEFSC marine research vessel surveys and activities, engage in strategic planning of projects, and maintain all survey information including all vessel activities, project instructions, project reports, and survey costs for all SEFSC programs.
- Collaborate and discuss with NMFS, NOAA, and Office of Marine and Aviation Operations staff, scientists, and coordinators on new vessel designs, personnel/staffing issues, headquarters reporting requirements, the national Fleet Allocation Plan, and the scheduling, access, and use of research vessels.
- Serve as the SEFSC Environmental Compliance Coordinator ensuring SEFSC fisheries and ecosystem research activities are in compliance with various statutes, agreements, and applicable laws including National Environmental Policy Act within the US Exclusive Economic Zone, high seas, and international waters.
- Monitor, track, and complete all scientific permits and reporting requirements, and coordinate annual NMFS Seagoing Personnel Training including sampling techniques, fish disposition, survey mitigation measures, sea turtle handling protocols, and small boat guidelines.
Occasional travel - Up to 10% of domestic travel may be required.
