    This position is located in the Eastern Regional Research Center (ERRC) for the Agricultural Research Service in Wyndmoor, PA.

    In this position, you will work with a team of researchers in a complex research area aimed at utilizing wasted streams or products from ice cream and other milk processing to develop economical methods to recover proteins, fats, carbohydrates and minerals and convert them to create dairy ingredients or food/non-food products that expand the marketability of milk.

    • Utilize wasted products from ice cream and other milk manufacturing processes to create new food ingredients and food or nonfood products.
    • Determine the chemical, sensorial, functional, and rheological properties and shelf-life/safety of the ingredients and products.
    • Quantify the major and minor compounds in milk products such as ice cream that may confer particular health benefits; or be used as colorants, flavorings, or improve textural properties; e,g,, in new ingredients.
    • Help develop new products using processes that may include the unit operations found in dairy and food processing or application of polymer and plastics processing techniques for coatings and packaging films, such as casting or extrusion; e.g.
