    The psychologist is assigned to the Whole Health Partnership within the Primary Care Service at the Detroit VAMC. The health psychologist functions as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Whole Health Clinic. Incumbent has specialized knowledge and expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of variety of chronic disorders and related issues, including the indentification and treatment of mental health disorders.

    This position requires considerable flexibility as problems in outreach and treatment of this veteran population may require creative solutions. Incumbent is also responsible for the comprehensive development, planning and implementation for the program's policies and procedures, determining the needs of the program, overseeing and directing the quality and quantity of training, monitoring data-driven outcomes, and establishing program initiatives and direction within limitations of available staff and budget. Incumbent is responsible for timely completion of all program evaluations and documentations required by the Medical Center. Incumbent is responsible for the oversight of quality improvement initiatives, maintenance of standards to maintain Joint Commission and CARF accreditation.
    Other duties may include but limited to:

    1. Provides a full range of psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients with co-morbid mental and physical health problems in support of the WHP.
    2. Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
    3. Provides comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy in support of the WHP.
    4. Provides consultation to professional staff within the Detroit VAMC and to community providers, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients.
    5. Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for patients involved with the WHP program who require such treatment.
    6. Functions independently as a member of the Detroit VAMC medical staff with full clinical privileges.
    7. Assumes complete professional responsibility for his/her clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.
    8. Develops curriculum to promote self-care and empowerment of patients, including but not limited to, mindfulness courses, stress reduction courses, and other educational courses for self-care.
    9. Assists the Whole Health Director and Deputy ACOS of Primary Care in the design, development, and implementation of the WHP program.
    10. Coordinates ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the WHP program.
    11. Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs in order to effectively coordinate services.
    12. Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients.
    13. Complies with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures
    14. Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by ACOS.
    15. Attends regular Whole Health steering committee meetings, Medical Staff meetings, and complies with the Mental Health Service peer review procedures.
    16. Collaborates with Clinical Director of the WHP program for the comprehensive developments, planning and implementation of the program's policies and procedures, determining the needs of the program, overseeing and directing the quality and quantity of training, monitoring data-driven outcomes, and establishing program initiatives and direction within limitations of available staff and budge.
    17. Provides clinical supervision to various disciplines and levels of training.
    18. Provides leadership guidance and consultation to staffs of units to which assigned.
    19. Serves as a consultant to other medical center staff and trainees and assists in their formulation of the psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment expectations regarding their patients.
    20. Provides leadership guidance, education, and consultation to staff to the other health care providers on Whole Health and Complementary and Integrative Medicine.
    21. Is involved in the training and coordination of medical students, medical and psychiatric residents, nursing students, fellows and other graduate or post-graduate trainees, working with the WHP program.
    22. Staff psychologists may be involved in research activities, such as preparing RFP's and grant proposal and/or presenting outcome data and research results and VA and regional or national scientific or professional meeting or peer-reviewed journals.
    23. Oversees the establishment of program monitors and outcome measurements within programs assigned using a data-driven quality assurance processes, in particular, monitoring outcome measures and metrics.
    24. Is responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am to 4pm or 8 :00 am to 4:30 pm
    Occasional outreach activity on Saturday as needed.
