    Summary

    This position is aligned under the Office of the Director, and reports to the Chief, Quality & Systems Improvement (QSI), at the Edward Hines Jr. VAMC. This position is responsible for directing assigned teams and services in the planning and coordination of Performance Improvement programs and quality improvement activities. Due to the size and complexity of the Hospital, significant coordination is required to maintain quality improvement activities in concert with institutional objectives.

    Responsibilities

    Major duties: The position is responsible for coordinating and maintaining a comprehensive, organized, continuous systematic program to review and identify opportunities for improvement in order to achieve excellence in the delivery of healthcare. Serves in an advisory and oversight capacity within the organization in the development and implementation of a fully accredited, comprehensive Performance Improvement program, which is designed to meet Joint Commission standards and to positively affect opportunities for improvements in quality of care practices. Supports organizational activities in QSI and
    independently performs special clinical studies, audits, trends, and provides necessary data and reports when this information is needed in response to any internal, regional, or external review or investigation, and serving as a member or chairperson of internal administrative investigations.
    Provides the necessary leadership and guidance to develop, implement, refine and maintain a
    comprehensive quality management/improvement program at the Hospital and service/program level. Conducts pre-audit surveys, inquiries into problem areas, discusses probable scope and course of the
    audit and proposes recommendations for corrective actions. In collaboration with each team/service
    of assignment, designs accreditation performance plans covering program areas where there is a high
    probability of significant findings, and develops approaches for standardizing system-related
    procedures for meeting accreditation requirements. Leads performance improvement activities and projects as directed by the QSI Chief.
    Acts as the liaison among Hospital teams/services and the Director's Office and continually keep top
    management briefed on issues vital to the status of the Performance Improvement program and
    accreditation decisions.
