This announcement is open to Current, Permanent Hampton VAMC employees.
This Supervisory Police Officer (Operations Officer) will supervise Supervisory Police Officers (Lieutenants) and will ensure that an adequate number of staff is on duty to meet the workload requirements for the Hampton VA Medical Center. This position is under the direct supervision of the Deputy Chief of Police Service and serves as department head in the absence of the Chief and Deputy Chief of Police Service.
Duties Include:
-The Operations Officer is responsible for assisting the Deputy Chief of Police Service with the overall operation, direction, and control of the law enforcement activities at the Hampton VA Medical Center, including the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
-The Operations Officer will also be responsible for collecting crime statistics for areas of responsibility and conducting an analysis of those crimes to better plan law enforcement operations and crime prevention programs.
-The incumbent will also be responsible for overseeing the physical security surveys, vulnerability assessments, after-hours checks, and lighting surveys.
-Plans, prepares and makes changes in the organization of work assignments and functions for police officers assigned to the respective tour of duty on a seven-day a week basis.
-The incumbent will be responsible in ensuring all officers complete their annual physical and psychological assessments.
-Establishes procedures and controls for the deterrence of crime, develops reviews and reports to the Deputy Chief of Police Service workload statistics and requirements, also overtime statistics and requirements.
-Ensures performance appraisals are accurate and reflect actual difference in levels of performance of employees.
-Accomplishes daily administrative functions, reviews crime reports and other written reports submitted by the police officers and holds corrective sessions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
-Creates and issues written instructions for special assignments and events.
