The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a twelve-bed unit, all private rooms, which provides care (24-hours a day) for adult and geriatric patients requiring nursing care on a concentrated and continuous basis or long term patients. Patient care focuses on direct patient care, education of the patient and the patient's family, and ensuring safety for the patients, visitors, and staff.

As a 157 bed medical, surgical, and psychiatric facility, the Kansas City VA provides comprehensive health care through primary care and tertiary care in subspecialty medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation.
