As a senior social worker, the incumbent has experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment and at least two years in an area of social work practice. The incumbent must be licensed at the advanced practice level.
FUNCTIONS OF POSITION :
This senior social worker is responsible to provide direct services to veterans referred to the Emergency Department. The incumbent will be the key contact for specialty services, will assess inpatient medicine/surgery admissions for screening, discharge planning, and assist with urgent or crisis related issues during off hours, weekends, and holidays. This professional social worker is responsible to provide a variety of services to veterans referred from the Emergency Department including psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, short-term, solution focused counseling with individuals and families who may be in crisis, education and referral for resources and benefits, case management and post-intervention follow-up. Responsibilities will also include consultation/education to medical center staff and service providers, the collection and maintenance of statistical data, program planning evaluation and modification, and the supervision of students as assigned.
Services are primarily provided in the Emergency Department with very little supervisory control. The incumbent is often the only social worker on duty during early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. He / She must demonstrate significantly advanced clinical skills and be able to function independently. The number of patients served is considerable. The incumbent incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice.
As a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team in the Emergency Department, the individual conducts work activity independently using his/her educational training, clinical experience, VA policies, and JCAHO standards in administering direct services: psychosocial assessment of patient/family needs in relation to the provision of interdisciplinary treatment planning and service delivery; individual, group, family counseling, and casework services for the purpose of addressing identified needs
Work Schedule: Wed 7:30a-11:30a, Thursday 2:30p-11:00p, and Friday 2:30p-11:00p.
