Serves as an independent contributor, a contributing specialist on large work activities, or as a team lead for single or small work activities. May provide formal instruction to other technicians. Performs highly specialized technical work associated with analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, fabricating, maintaining, modifying, or evaluation of the most complex systems for which the FAA, CBP or other government agencies are responsible. Work is vital to the success of activities and projects that are critical to the safe and continual operation of the NAS, FAA Aircraft, and/or other government agency programs, such as Customs and Border Protections, (CBP). Contacts are both internal and external, and this position is often considered a key technical point of contact for assigned systems, programs, and projects. Contacts are made to furnish technical guidance and advice, instruct other employees, share information, provide data, discuss the status of assignments, and coordinate the activities of contractors.
Receives general work assignments from a supervisor, but uses own judgment, experience, and knowledge to solve problems and complete assignments. Identifies resources needed to perform assignments, plans and organizes work to accomplish, as well as maintain a focus on organizational objectives. Allocates resources to accomplish limited work activities within established schedules.
In some cases, guidance may be incomplete, requiring technician to develop solutions, procedures, and/or work instructions based on the knowledge of the discipline and past experience. May develop guidelines for the use of other technicians. Effectively and efficiently performs component level repairs and system level troubleshooting on one or more government agency systems, such as Customs and Border Protection and FAA.
Trains other technicians on component level repair and system level maintenance using on the job, (OJT) techniques on one or more government agency systems, such as CBP. Monitors technician workload, stock levels, customer service actions, and project status as a Team Lead for single or small work activities with little or no supervision.
Ensures efficient operations and model work environment for the section and or branch as a lead technician. Supports the Branch Supervisor in the role of project lead technician and/or technician in depth in support of the branch and division. Provides support toward branch/division goals and business plan, to include revenue goals. Completed work is reviewed to an extent consistent with the complexity of the assignment.
May be required to travel for the purpose of obtaining and/or providing technical information for resolving various operational problems and corrective maintenance issues. May be required to allocate resources to accomplish limited work activities within established schedules and participate in a call-out roster in support of one or more government agencies, such as CBP, to support field priority requirements.
