As a Physical Scientist, you will perform the following duties:
- Provide systems engineering and mission assurance support in developing concepts and plans for scientific data management. Analyze existing National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) enterprise data management policies to ensure compatibility with current and future enterprise architectures; and provide guidance and support to leadership and programs on programmatic and management activities.
- Write and staff new enterprise policies and procedures. Revise existing policies and procedures to incorporate new observing systems, cyber security requirements or new data management and archiving standards; and resolve conflicting guidance.
- Ensure product lifecycle policies are followed when new products are recommended for addition to NESDIS enterprise product suite. Organize and lead topic-specific working groups, integrated product teams or other ad hoc activities. Prepare charters or terms of reference, master schedules and deliverables. Develop and execute strategy for modifying or retiring products no longer useful to the user community or those that can be replaced by enhanced products or new observing systems.
- Develop and maintain liaison with National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and non-NOAA data users. Solicit feedback on product quality, timeliness and user satisfaction. In conjunction with other NESDIS offices and NOAA Line Offices, develop and document routine and contingency product generation and distribution plans. Participate in contingency and Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP) exercises and suggest exercise objectives to test various contingency concepts.
NOTE: These duties are described at the Full Performance Level of the ZP-4, the ZP-3 is developmental leading to such performance.
25% or less - Up to 20% domestic and foreign travel may be required for this position.
