As a Physical Scientist, you will perform the following duties:
- Provide scientific and technical expertise in coastal and estuarine science to federal, state, and local agencies. Build partnerships and communicate project results and outcomes. Provide expert scientific and technical guidance to regional, state, and local coastal conservation and management planning programs to implement best practices in coastal estuarine data collection and research. Initiate and maintain partnership links to leverage NOAA resources, products and services.
- Engage stakeholders to develop and support research, monitoring, and assessment projects and advise management of the advantages and disadvantages of alternative approaches. Exercise a high degree of originality and innovation, as well as utilize state-of-the-art approaches in the resolution of complex coastal zone environmental issues.
- Lead grants competition management and process financial assistance awards. Review progress reports and serve as a grants program officer. Review contractor tasks and deliverables. Provide data for the determination of cost estimates on each project and information on conditions that may cause cost overruns or delays.
- Develop and disseminate information and advice to state, regional, and national management authorities, environmental organizations, and the lay public through reports, presentations, briefings, and other outreach activities. Support communication efforts to inform and engage stakeholders regarding research. Provide scientific peer reviews of reports and manuscripts.
Note: The duties are at the full ZP-4 performance level and the ZP-3 are developmental leading to such performance.
Occasional travel - Up to 10% domestic travel may be required for this position.
