Duties and Responsibilities: This Aviation Safety Inspector (Team Lead- MFG) position will serve as a Senior Aviation Safety Inspector (SASI) assisting the manager in completing daily duties and responsibilities associated with supporting the operation of the office. The incumbent works independently and exercises sound judgement when making decisions affecting the office. In the absence of the manager may serve as acting manager for assigned office as well as other offices when needed or requested. As instructed by the manager, the SASI is authorized to direct and assign work of office personnel and may serve as an approver for actions routinely performed by the manager as permitted by policy.
The SASI reports to the manager on performance progress, training of employees, and disciplinary problems. Makes recommendations to the manager regarding promotions, reassignments, recognition, and personnel needs. Resolves simple complaints of employees and refers others to the manager. Communicates assignments, projects, and problems to be solved, to include deadlines and milestones for completion.
The SASI signs office correspondence and reports ensuring that all actions and/or program reporting requirements assigned to the office are completed within defined schedules. Serves as the focal point for programs such as the Quality Management System, Oversee System Performance, and AVS Staffing Tool and Reporting System.
The SASI applies experience and a comprehensive knowledge in evaluating compliance for applicants, Production Approval Holders (PAHs) and/or holders of Organization Designation Authorizations (ODAs) with the applicable Code of Federal Regulations, FAA Policy, and non U.S. regulations governed by Bilateral Agreements. Additionally, the SASI uses systems thinking to address the responsibilities listed above. As the agency moves toward a system-based approach, the SASI determines how to efficiently and effectively oversee entities based upon compliance and safety risks within the aviation system.
As a Team Lead, the SASI serves as mentor, coach and role model to ASls/ASEs within the office and across the organization. As a leader in the organization, the SASI assists the manager in promoting AIR's goals and objectives by demonstrating behaviors that support informed decision-making and enhanced collaboration with internal/external stakeholders. Provides guidance to lower-level technical staff on how to solve difficult technical issues. Independently resolves routine technical problems without the intervention of management.
