Summary

This position is located with the Agricultural Research Service, Field Organization, Plains Area, Northern Plains Agricultural Research Laboratory in Agricultural Systems Research Unit, Sidney, MT.

In this position you will be responsible for assisting in one or more phases of the research process by performing a variety of technical duties, in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment. Performs routine and recurring techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment.

Responsibilities
- Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies crop samples and supporting records.
- Identifies common crop species (seeds, plant growth stages , etc.) supporting records. Scouts field and identifies yield-limiting problems.
- Assists in the implantation of different phases of the research process by performing a variety of technical duties in a field setting.
- Collects plant, soil and grain samples and prepares them for laboratory analysis by weighing, grinding and cleaning.Insert Major Duty/Responsibility Here
- Identifies weed and insect pests and disease that affect common crops.

Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience calibrating, adjusting and operating tillage, planting, harvesting and pesticide application equipment for field crops; collecting and evaluating plant, soil, water and/or gas samples in the greenhouse or field; recording and compiling research results and data; and assisting in the development and improvement of equipment, techniques and procedures within the experiment process.
OR
Education: One full year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees include: Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering , Soil Science, Weed Science, Plant Science, Entomology, Biochemistry, Plant Genetics, Plant Physiology, or Plant Pathology.
OR
An appropriate combination of graduate education and specialized experience as stated above.

For this position, specialized experience is experience calibrating, adjusting, modifying and operating tillage, planting, harvesting and pesticide application equipment for field crops; collecting and evaluating plant, soil, water and/or gas samples in the greenhouse or field; analyzing data using appropriate statistical analyses, contributing ideas to the design and planning of experiments; and compiling and maintaining records of scientific data.
OR
Education: One full year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Soil Science, Weed Science, Plant Science, Entomology, Biochemistry, Plant Genetics, Plant Physiology, or Plant Pathology.
