An IT SPECIALIST (CUSTSPT), GS-2210-09, Serves as a technical specialist on all automated systems utilized throughout the state. Provides solutions to customer requests for assistance in resolving the less complex hardware and software problems, referring the more complex problems to a higher graded specialist. Receives requests for resolution of hardware or software problems that may require in-depth research. Participates in site surveys in order to verify adequacy of software installation practices and operating environments are compliant with desktop and network security standards, and network operations to ensure customer needs are met. Provides technical assistance to current and potential users so that LAN/WAN and other C4 systems operations have few major disruptions. Proactively interacts with users to ensure proper operation of computer systems, hardware, and software. Installs and maintains hardware devices supporting a broad range of information systems employing multiple network and local operating systems and highly sophisticated client server software. Installs and configures workstation or network operating systems, and applications software on a wide range of configurable information systems devices. Performs operational tests on equipment in test array or operational configuration prior to issue or installation to ensure proper operation and absence of hardware, software, device or network conflicts. Captures, maintains and tracks warranty data for all fielded systems, advises other support personnel of warranty status and interfaces with vendor to request and monitor warranty work. Maintains the customer service database for all service requests. Receives, analyzes, assigns control numbers and tracks to resolution all customer requests. Knowledge of LAN/WAN standards and equipment sufficient to install, configure, and troubleshoot LAN and WAN components such as routers, hubs, switches, and servers. Performs other as duties as assigned.

Area 1: Current On-board Minnesota National Guard Title 32 Technicians who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired within that National Guard component applying for a position within the component which they are currently employed.
Area 2: Current Minnesota National Guard Title 32 Technicians who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired at a sister component that is identified on the Position Vacancy Announcement (PVA), including onboard Title 5 employees that are also current members of MNNG; i.e. Army MNNG to Air MNNG, Air MNNG to Army MNNG.
Area 3: All Minnesota National Guard members currently assigned to the MNANG or to the MNARNG applying for a position within the component in which they are currently assigned. i.e. temporary technician or Traditional Guardsman.
Area 4: Currently assigned service members in other branches of the military outside of the Minnesota National Guard, to include those assigned to Active Duty, Reserve or other state's National Guard.
Area 5: All individuals able to and willing to become members of the Minnesota National Guard including prior service not currently assigned to a military component and non-prior service US civilians.
Evaluation Factors: Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of appropriate education, experience, training, self-development activities, and special awards. Candidates are considered on the basis of available information on their current application and supporting information that has been provided to this office. To ensure full consideration, applicants are urged to submit information about their training, self-development, outside experience, activities and awards. National Guard military (Part-time) service is considered as full-time experience when evaluated against the qualification requirements for a technician position. The applicant is credited with actual number of months the member has been in the National Guard if the experience is related.
