Basic Requirements: All librarians must meet the requirements for professional education in library science or possess equivalent experience and education as specified in paragraphs A or B below.
A. Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in Library Science from a regionally accredited college or university; in addition to, the completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. (You must submit copies of official transcripts with your application package).

B. Applicants must possess a total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. This education, training, and experience must provide a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements above, applicants must also meet the specialized experience below.
Specialized experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which includes experience in acquisition of library resources, management of electronic library content, creating marketing and promotional materials, educating and advising faculty, staff, and students on library resources and their proper use. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
