    This position is located under the Research Division within the Office of Analysis, Research, and Technology. You will be responsible for analysis and research studies dealing with business and driver related factors that contribute to commercial motor vehicle crashes. You will also be responsible for assisting in evaluating Federal and State commercial motor vehicle safety programs and in developing new ways to communicate data into information for managers to administer their programs.

    The Mathematical Statistician:

    • Performs studies related to mathematical principles, methods, procedures or relationships associated with FMCSA research.
    • Uses complex mathematical, statistical and other scientific methods to develop alternatives and solutions to problems related to motor carrier safety.
    • Develops new analytical techniques for evaluating safety issues to assist the Agency to meet its safety mission.
    • Directs and manages studies on effects of alternative solutions to safety problems.
    • Conducts modeling and prototyping and utilizes statistical theory in the selection, collection, classification, adjustment, analysis and interpretation of alternatives and solutions.
