    Summary

    The Program Specialist is responsible for the daily administration of a comprehensive research safety program along with the overall management of the Institutional Animal Care and Use committee (IACUC) within the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Healthcare System (VAPAHCS).

    Responsibilities

    Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited, the following:

    • Plans, directs, coordinates, evaluates and oversees the comprehensive operations of the research laboratories including ensuring the personnel, equipment and infrastructure are in compliant;
    • Plans, organizes, coordinates, and conducts a series of healthcare system-wide comprehensive inspections of the research labs;
    • Develops and directs the establishment of safety and occupational health practices in the research labs;
    • Prepares technical guidance and documents for the procurement of research equipment;
    • Trains research and medical center personnel on safety and research topics;
    • Manages and serves as the liaison between the research labs and the Radiation Safety Officer;
    • Participates and serves as a voting member or subject matter expert on multiple committees;
    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00AM-4:30PM
